Product Review: John Frieda Root Awakening Health Boosting Detangling Spray

Hi everyone.

So, as promised, I am doing a review. I am reviewing the Health Boosting Detangling Spray, found at drugstores. What this spray basically does is untangle your hair. When you go out the shower, you spray 3-5 pumps at your roots and massage it in. I like to comb the spray through my hair. The spray contains natural eucalyptus, vitamins, and heat protection. The spray is for all hair types. I bought this product around 4 months ago, but never had a chance to review it.

I like the product. The smell isn't bad, you can definitely smell the eucalyptus scent. It does detangle pretty well, but as for it's nourishing and silk-ing claims, I don't see a difference in my hair. I think it's nice that it also has heat protectant. The bottle is 6 FL OZ. and it does last a long time. I've had it for 4 months and I still have half the bottle. Pretty much, it does what it is intended for, to detangle your hair.

Product Review: The Body Shop Nutmeg and Vanilla Body Butter

Hey! So for this month, I will do various reviews on different body butters. Today will be The Body Shop's Nutmeg and Vanilla Body Butter.

The smell of this body butter is not overwhelming. It's not my favorite, but I like it. It is thick. (Well of course, it's a body butter, duh, silly me!). When you rub it on, it is shiny and greasy. The shine will stay for maybe (at the most) 5 minutes. What I like about this butter is that it is long lasting. I placed it an hour ago, that is at around 7:45pm EST, and right now, it is 9:01pm EST. So that's a little over an hour. If you run your hand over where you rubbed it, you will still feel the product, but it is also still soft, and this body butter doesn't lose it's scent. However, if you wash your hands regularly, then of course the butter will wash off. The butter is for normal skin. I placed it on my hands and they definitely feel soft. I recommend this one. It's not my favorite, but if you have normal skin (at least your hands aren't very dry), then I would recommend it. It is $20. The price might be intimidating, especially for a body butter, but you get a lot of product and it's worth it! (It is good for skin types ranging from normal to dry!)

How To: Choose A (Spring) Scent

Hi all.

Spring. Florals and light nudes, pinks, and greys. Flowers, and cherry blossoms. What better time than to trade your warm, musky, winter scent for a light, spring one. Here are ways to help you pick a scent. Scents that are in this spring are fruity and soft.

-Smell each perfume on a fragrance blotter. Do not put more than one perfume on a blotter.
- Smell overload? Ask for something that smells strong, such as coffee beans, which most perfume stores will have. If not, bring some with you (if you know you are going to go perfume shopping.)
Smell them. If not, try smelling your sleeves.
-Once you narrow it down to a couple of perfumes, spritz on different parts of your body. "Warm spots are the best places to spray a scent because fragrance is enhanced by heat. Try the hollow of the neck, behind your ears, the inner wrists, and crooks of the knees and elbows. Avoid spraying your clothes or hair—some fragrances can stain and leave your hair greasy."
-Wait for a minimum of 30 minutes and smell, and decide which is the best.

Women Spend $13,000 Each on Makeup

"Supposedly the beauty industry is recession-proof. Why? Because when times are tough and ladies can't afford to splurge on a new outfit, buying a tube of lipstick or a bottle of nail polish provides a cheap thrill. And we don't know about you, but it's often difficult to go into a drugstore or walk by a Sephora without purchasing a little something. Well, a new survey has revealed that all those makeup purchases add up to big bucks over time. The results claim that woman will spend, on average, $13,000 in her lifetime. Does that number shock you, or are you already feeling pangs of guilt?

Superdrug, who conducted a survey of 3000 women, found that women begin regularly buying cosmetics by the age of 16. On average, ladies shop for makeup five times a year, spending around $39.45 on each trip. When multiplied by 65 years, the average female adult life, that brings us to a whopping $13,000. As for some specifics, they tallied around $1,620 spent on a lifetime of lipstick, $2,512 on eye shadow, and $3,446 on mascara. We refuse to believe it--we're going to start keeping track.

If these results really are true, women place a great value on makeup! The study found that 70% of women won't leave the house without applying something to her face, with 68% saying cosmetics make them feel more confident. One in five women surveyed said their boyfriends have never seen them without makeup, even in bed! OK, we get it. Makeup is important to us. But perhaps some of that $13,000 could be put to better use."

Superficialgirl Spring/Summer Contest

Hey!

So, this is my entry for the contest. I did a Polyvore Set of something I would wear during spring in real life.

Spring by Lavenderlady07 featuring Chanel bags

So, a very popular trend (in which I will do a blog post soon about) is shoulder (chain) bags. I love this Chanel bag. I wish it was mine. Anyway, a popular color is also this very light, pink. I've paired it with a plain white top, and a black wide belt. I then added a creme/white color cardigan with sequins for a touch of sparkle. The heels are super adorable! For accessories, there are silver bow earrings, a silver heart necklace, a creme colored flower ring, and another sequined ring.

For the makeup, you want to add a little bit of color. This can be achieved with a neutral eye on top, followed by a pop of color on the bottom. Start by your choice of foundation, concealer, and mineral booster. Apply your choice of a neutral or light brown/gold colors on the top of your eyelid. On your waterline and lower lash line, apply an olive colored eyeliner and eyeshadow using an eyeshadow brush. Contour your cheeks, adding a light bronze color. For your lips, go simple by glazing with a light glitter pink color!

March Favorites

Hey! So today, I'll be doing a March Favorites. This is the first time I am doing it. If you don't know, the Monthly Favorites are sort of like a tag, kind of. Actually, a lot of gurus do them. It's basically when once a month, usually at the end of that month or the first couple of days of the next month, you list or talk about all your favorite items you used that month (beauty, skincare, makeup, tools, etc.). Let's begin!

1. Jergens Ultra Healing Extra Dry Skin Moisturizer

I find this very good- I used it for the winter, and am still using it, for a little now. Here, March was kind of windy, so it helped. I bought this at BJ's, but I think this can also be found in drugstores for around $5.

LA Colors Sheer Lipgloss Tube in Clear
I don't really get lip products from LA Colors, or makeup from them in general. However, I decided to try. I actually like this. It is kind of sticky, but it is long lasting. The place where the lipgloss comes out is like one of those fabric type covered top, do you know what I'm saying?

3. The Body Shop Nutmeg & Vanilla Body Butter

This body butter does exactly what is says it does: soften the skin.

4. Britney Spears Curious Perfume

This is probably my only favorite "cheap" perfume. It does not compare to Daisy or Miss Dior Cherie, but I still think it smells good. It's something I could wear everyday.

5.Pantene Smooth V Sleek and Shine Shampoo

I love this shampoo so far. I recently go it, so I am going to continue experimenting with it! Hopefully it'll last. But it makes your hair very smooth and sleek. I recommend it!

I Just Realized

So, I just realized that I have not been posting a lot. I have so much tips and tricks to share, but I have not been wanting to until I reach 50 followers. However, how am I going to get 50 followers if I don't post interesting things? I have been holding back, and I am sorry. I am going to post all of the interesting things, even if no one is reading, even if people continue un-following. I am determined to continue this blog.

However, I have not forgotten about my resolution. Again, I reach to all of my followers. My goal is to reach 50 followers by July 12, 2010, my blog's first year anniversary. Although that is, as of now, unlikely to happen, I am still trying. Please help by spreading the message.

Product Review: E.L.F. Brightening Eyeliner

Hi everyone,

In my previous post, I said that I had ordered 2 sets from E.L.F. Cosmetics. Well, my shipment arrived Friday. I promised I'd do a review. I think I'm going to do each item separately. I'm not sure yet. Or maybe I should just review the whole kit. (I've only tried one so far, the smokey eyes). Anyway, today I'll be reviewing the E.L.F. Brightening Eyeliner, which came with both of my Get The Look sets. If bought separately, it is only a $1.

E.L.F. claims: "Gel-powder formulation infused with skin soothers instantly brightens and glides on smoothly without tugging the delicate eye area."

I received this in my sets in Black. The eyeliner is NOT scented, which I guess can be a good thing. The tip is definitely very soft and smooth. When you apply it, it goes on smooth. It is easy to apply. It's medium sized, so it is short enough to stand up in the mirror and put eyeliner on without the eyeliner hitting the mirror. When you apply, it comes out thin, you have to reapply to make it thick. For the brightening part-I didn't really see a difference. Maybe because the color was black. I don't know, but I didn't see brightening. It is also pretty easy to remove. If you have and use a blending brush, you can blend the eyeliner because it blends well.

My First E.L.F. Cosmetics Purchase

Hey everyone,

So I one day was browsing this website where you rate, review, and discuss other products. I happened to click on what they had compiled as the best makeup brushes. So, I was browsing, and I think number 5, or maybe it was number 2, no I think it was number 5. Anyway, number 5 was an E.L.F. eyeshadow brush. And I couldn't believe the price. It was ONLY $1. So, I went to their website, and fell in love with them. Their E.L.F line is great for beginners, and their studio line looks good. Of course, it's not a M.A.C, but E.L.F has very good quality products for very good deals. Their whole E.L.F collection is $1, the studio is $3, and the minerals is $5 and up.

I just wanted to share what I ordered. I'll do a review on the products when I get them, and FedEx is telling me I'll get them Thursday!

I have been looking for a smokey eye kit. I saw one at Bare Escentuals, but didn't get it. So, when I browsed their site and saw they had a kit, I had to immediately get my hands on it!

I think this look looks so soft and amazing! Can't wait to try it.

Product Review: Bonnebell Flip Style

Today, I will be reviewing Bonnebell Flip Style. It is a lip product. It's more like a lip stick than lip gloss. According to Bonnebell, " f´Lip Style™ has flavors and designs that fit your personal style. Glide on a hint of smooth color with shimmering shine."
"Turn heads when you apply f’Lip Style lip color. Not only will you look cool wearing it, you’ll look cool putting it on! Pretty colors, yummy smells and an awesome package! Who knew applying make-up could be so much fun."

Okay, so I bought this product awhile ago. It comes in 6 different flavors: Sweet as Strawberry pie, Chillin´ Like Vanill´in, Kiwi to My Heart, Donut You Love it, Feelin' Berry Flirty, and Watermelon You Up To.
The store I went to only had Feelin' Berry Flirty and Kiwi to My Heart. I bought Kiwi To My Heart. First of all, the packaging is very very very very very adorable! I absolutely LOVE it. There is a cool design, and there is a slider to flip the cap of the lip gloss and use it. The slider also can bring more of it, sort of like in lip stick, but instead of turning you slide. The smell is soooooooooooooooo good. Mine smells like kiwi and strawberry! I just want to bite mine and eat it. It smells very good. Not really fruity either. The pigmentation isn't the best, but isn't the worst. However, when you place it on, it feels dry, as if your lips are chapped. The color isn't exactly the way it looks. It is lighter with more shimmer. I really didn't like the feeling of it on my lips.

Kim Kardashian's long awaited perfume, Kim Kardashian, was released last week. She reportedly had been working on the perfume for 2-3 years. The bottle claims that the perfume "essence evokes Kim's sultry style with crisp top notes, lush mid notes, and a sexy drydown. " Notes include: Mandarin, Honey Suckle, Orange Blossom, Pink Jasmine, Tuberose, Sensual Spice, Lush Gardenia, Jacaranda Wood, Tonka Bean, Vanilla Orchid, Sexy Musk, Creamy Sandalwood.

The perfume definitely has a strong scent, so if you're not into strong scents, then it really isn't for you. It does sort of smell like Michael Kors' Very Hollywood perfume. It is also on the floral side. You can smell gardenia immediately. If you like strong floral scents, then this perfume is for you!

Hello,

So last August, I got my hair cut. I think I did mention that last August, but I don't remember. Anyway, the lady used a product which I will be reviewing today. It's Bumble & Bumble Straight. This product is for wavy or curly hair. I don't exactly know how to describe it, it's like a gel, but kind of not like a gel. Anyway, using it is very very very easy. You can use this after you take a shower. Towel dry your hair- it doesn't have to be all dry. Then, apply on your hand and rub slightly. Then, section by section, work it through your fingers. Make sure you get every single strand of hair. Then blow dry and comb, and you get amazing straight hair!

When I first tried it, my hair wasn't immediately straight. You need to practice before it comes out nice! It does take a while. And you have to blow dry everywhere you applied. While blow drying, I comb my hair. It comes out better. This "gel" is odorless. My hair (through many attempts) didn't come out as straight as I wanted it too, but it was still straight enough without using a straightener, which is nice.

I've decided to branch off a bit, I suppose. Instead of my promised beauty post, I am today posting a couple of weird but true facts. I think I'm going to do this every weekend just for fun, and as a weekend sign off or something like that. Not really sure yet. But the beauty post will be up soon. What I Did During Winter Break

Hola,

I can't believe we start school again tomorrow. I don't want to go. *sigh* Anyway, how was your winter break? Mine, overall=fun.

On Mon. & Tues., I had no school because of the snow storm, and then Wed. I had 2 hr delay.
So, Thurs. I did nothing, and Fri. I did nothing. Saturday I went bowling with my family and friends and lost to my 7 year old brother. Fun. *eye roll* I finished in 2nd though. ;) Sunday I went to sunday school, then stayed at my friend's house the whole day with my friends. It was fun. Then Monday I went to this jumping place for a party, then Tuesday I went to the mall with my friends. It was not bad-although it was an unsuccessful trip for me fashion wise. However, I did get body spray for $2.62 at Bath & Body Works. ;) And me and my friend kept going in and out of Bare Escentuals. I should have bought that makeup remover. Oh well, next time I will. Wednesday I went to my other friend's house with my friends all day. She has Netflix (lucky) so we watched movies. And then we created videos and tutorials, and decided to have fun with makeup. We made my friend into a "Zombie Cat." It was hilarious. I put mascara all over her face. Hilarious. Then Thursday I did nothing. Attempted to do h.w. Friday I went to Virginia. It was also my dad's bday, I gave him $40. Yesterday I did h.w, and today I went to sunday school and then did h.w. Fun. How was your winter break? Until next time.

Hello everyone,

Hope everyone is having a great the-day-after-new-years-day day. Lol. Yesterday was my dad's birthday, but we were in Virginia at his best friend's house, so we didn't do anything. But we're doing something tomorrow. I-however-had no idea what he wanted this year, so I just gave him $40.

Okay, I know I keep saying I will change the blog layout, but this time I mean it. I think I'm going to just use one of Blogger's normal templates and make the text a soft/nude color, such as pink, or keep it like this for now. IDK yet.

I will be doing my own reviews on makeup remover. Also in store are makeup tutorials, more reviews, and beauty info and tips. Also, I will be doing fashion posts and what not soon.

You know how everyone has New Year's Resolutions? Well, ONE of my New Year's resolutions is to get at least 50 followers by the end of 2010. I know, that seems very little, but to me, that's a lot. Liquid Foundations

Hello Everyone,

Usually, I do not wear liquid foundation at all. In fact, I barely even wear foundation. However, a recent outing at Sephora got me all over Dior's Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Hydrating Makeup SPF 10. That was a mouthful! Basically, it's a liquid foundation. It has mineralized water and natural pigments. When I went to Sephora and tried it, I was impressed. It was very easy to rub and wasn't greasy. Plus, I also found my perfect shade from the millions they have. They have twelve different shades, ranging from Ivory 010 to Dark Brown 070. My shade was Medium Beige 030. According to the reviews, the product is very good for winter because it is moisturizing. It also lasts a good amount of time and works with all kinds of skins. Although it is $45, it is quite a good deal.

Chocolate Show...

So, I was watching Unwrapped on Food Network and the episode was about chocolate. There is this New York Annual Chocolate Show that happens in November. They were featuring I think the 8th Annual Chocolate Show, and then I saw that the chocolate show has a chocolate fashion show too. And I saw this AMAZING blue dress..made COMPLETELY by chocolate. So they had the designer's name, but as I was racing to write it down, I forgot because I kept saying it over and over again, so I spent today looking for who designed it, I only had his first name that I remembered. I finally found it!

to go camping *sigh*. I don't want to go, but my dad wants to since we haven't camped once this year. I will miss the last swimming session :(. Not fair. Plus, I'll most likely be bitten by MORE mosquitoes. So, I will leave Friday between 3pm and 4pm EST, and come back Sunday, or Saturday if I can convince my parents to come back early so I can go swimming! Wish me luck. (At least I have my ipod. xD). (PGS) Interview with JBFanChloe

Currently, we have a contest going on the forum (www.girlsenseforum.heavenforum.com) called Project GirlSense, hosted by Moose (afmoose95). Contests have to create certain fashions on the awesome website www.girlsense.com based on certain challenges. The semi-finals just passed, and we are now in the finals. For the semi-finals challenge, contestants had to create an outfit inspired by "Alice in Wonderland". After the conclusion of the critiques and scores, Chloe was eliminated. I recently interviewed Chloe. Here are some of her entries for various challenges for Project GirlSense:

"Alice in Wonderland" outfit

"2100" Outfit

But first, before the interview, get to know a little more about Chloe!

Chloe loves fashion, music, and reading. She is good at matching colors and casual clothes. She likes different genres of music, including punk rock, but she just absolutely loves the Jonas Brothers, even if she's not a big fan of pop. " I do love the Jonas Brothers, but I don't really like pop that much. I guess they're just different, and that's what I love about them." She plays the clarinet and is learning to play not only the piano, but also the guitar. When she's not on the computer or listening to music, she likes to read. In fact, she states that she likes most types of books. She does hate sports though, "I'm not really a sports person, I'm terrible at every sport there is, and I don't even like to watch sports." She loves talking to people and making new friends. In fact, "...I always try to be friendly and nice, and I usually end up being great friends with that person."

I "sat down" with Chloe and asked her a few questions.

INTERVIEW

Lavvy: (1) What's your GirlSense username and how long have you been on GirlSense?

Chloe :My current account is called JBFanChloe. I had a lot of accounts before that starting in 2007.

L: (2) Why did you first join Project GirlSense?

C: Because I liked designing things in the fds, and I thought it would be fun to see how I do in a competition.

L: (3) Which challenge was your favorite? Why?

C: I liked Challenge 2, the "create a outfit for 2100" one. There are a ton of different creative things you can do for that. I also liked when we had to create an outfit with a trend from the past, it was challenging but fun.

L :(4) Which challenge was your least favorite and why?

C: I don't really have one least favorite, I didn't like the bathing suit that doubled as a dress one, because it was really challenging and hard to be creative. I also didn't really like when we had a partner and made our outfits be cohesive. It was really hard communicating, because when we say one thing, and your picturing it in your mind in can look different in someone else's mind. Plus, being cohesive was hard to make without being exactly the same.

L: (5) Which outfit, from all the ones you have created for PGS, do you like the best? Why is that?

C: Haha. I liked my 2100 outfit. I kept changing it in the beginning, and then I accidentally put a few different colored stain decos on a skirt when I only wanted 1, and it looked really futuristic. So, I cut it and it took me a few different times to get the look I wanted, and this was kind of challenging to because you couldn't use buttons. After I finished the outfit, it looked kind of plain, so I wanted something underneath it. I tried different fabrics, and then cut it and the outfit came out really nice.

L: (6) If after seeing the judges comments and score, if you were allowed to change and revise one outfit, which one would you have chosen? Why?

C: Probably the Challenge where we could only use beads, and the elegant bathing suit outfit. I could have read the challenge better, and added a lot more, and I could have created something really great, but I didn't. ):

L: Thank you for your time Chloe! You were a great designer and it was sad to see you leave. Remember, you should be proud of yourself for making it all the way to the semi-finals! That is a wonderful accomplishment. :D

C: That was kinda fun. xD Thanks. ;)

I'm in a good mood, so I'm doing the Designer Spotlight today. I've decided that I'll do the Designer Spotlight every month. I have a lot of favorties, so it'll take a while! ;)

August's "Designer Spotlight" is on Reem Acra. She is one of my favorite designers.

Reem Acra was born in Lebanon. She studied in New York and Paris. Reem Acra started in New York as an embroidery artist. She started a bridal gown company in 1995 and has been successful ever since. She is recognized for her intricate use of embroidery. She is known for her attention to detail, combinations of unique fabric pieces, and her embroidery.

Mascara...

I ALWAYS have trouble not only putting on mascara-but finding the RIGHT mascara. My eyelashes are long and dark, so putting mascara on them is hard. And anyone who puts mascara on me also have a hard time too. So, I was browsing Teen Vogue's website, and I found this article. I found it very benefitial. Well, I didn't find the EXACT eyeliner that matched my eyelash description. My eyleashes are long, slightly curled, and thick, NOT sparse, and all I can find that fits my description is the ones for sparse eyelashes. I might try the Laura Mercier long lash mascara - but I have to wait until October for those! - and the Covergirl lashexact. Then, I'll write my own reviews eventually! :D

Designer Spotlight: Zuhair Murad

So, every now and then, I will have a "Designer Spotlight" post in which I share with you some of my favorite designers (in no random order). This week, I'll be blogging about one of my favorite designers (prolly my third favorite) Zuhair Murad. (Picture size might be weird, I fixed them, but it's still acting up!)

Zuhair Murad was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1971. He opened his first atelier in 1995. He has a boutique in Beirut and a boutique in Paris, and a showroom in Milano. His lines include ready to wear, accessories, haute couture, and eyewear. He is planning to expand his line to include swimwear and beauty products. He had dressed many celebrities, including Beyonce, Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, Claire Forlani and many more. His gorgeous creations and unexpected and edgy twists and attention to details in his fashions contribute "to his reputation as rocketing star designer".

The Weekend & Poly la la Land

Hey all. :D I am still debating about the look of the blog. *sigh* Gahh. My hair. I went swimming yesterday for 4 hours at the YMCA. You see it's every Sunday and my mom's friends reserved it and whatever, and I finally decided to go, even if there are only around 4-5 weeks in the session left. Well, too be honest with you, I completely forgot how to swim and I had to start with the basics. :( I took lessons for 3 years around 3 years ago, but I haven't swam since. Gahh. One of my close friends is AMAZING! She can do backstands and flips under water and what not. I'm jealous...So, my hair STILL smells like chlorine-at least to me, everyone else says it doesn't- and I took a million showers. And it feels different. It doesn't feel soft anymore. It feels wrinkly. Gahh.
